The Sermon In The Night
An owl calls through the darkness Like a church bell ringing, Preaching fom a pulpit Out there in the trees. “To to to to to whoo, Listen you, alone in a house, Suspended in a bed, Flying through space and time, Held by something huge and beautiful Called nature by the faithful, I am the wild intelligence That gives you birth, I am the grandeur and intricacy of life on earth; I am the priest of the night Calling you to serve creation. |
4x4
We used to go marching 2x2 When we went to war: But now we're at war with nature We go marching 4x4. I’m like Jeremy Clarkson I’m above the law, When I go for a walk in the mountains I go in 4x4. We used to go marching 2x2 but now we go 4x4. We don’t care if the oil runs out we’re going to burn some more. Don’t talk to me about rules Rules are there to ignore; My carpenter used to use 3x2 I make him use 4x4 The animals went in 2x2 We always go 4x4 Then we’ll have some bloody great floods Worse than ever before. You see some pathetic cars on the road but look at my 4x4: Cars should be like tanks to drive like you’re going to war. You’ve got a car I see but I’ve got a 4x4: You’re destroying the planet but I’m destroying it more. I don’t care if the planet is wrecked, Nature is such a bore; Things go extinct one by one Make that 4x4. Some people like to tell us We shouldn’t drive 4x4s; We’re free to drive any car we want As long as its bigger than yours. Cars are our self expression And we love my 4x4s; You say to me “Be green” I say to you “Up yours”. So now I’m off to the shops, I won’t be walking for sure; I’ll leave you with a cloud of exhaust And a lovely powerful roar. |
